Interview with Catchlove:

1. Why do you play wizard rock?

Well, obviously, I love the Harry Potter series, and I enjoy making music, it only makes sense that the two should go hand-in-hand

2. What do you personally get out of being in a wizard rock band?

The community. The fans are amazing and supportive, heck, everyone in this community, even if they don't listen to wizard rock, is supportive. Meeting all these people has been one of the best, and most rewarding, parts hands down.

3. What influences your music/your style?

Oh it's sooo hard to say. I really don't listen to a lot of music that's my own style, which is kind of weird. But at the same time, I find it hard to really pinpoint my exact style of music... Though styles (or bands for this instance) that I enjoy that influence me in a way are The Arcade Fire, Muse, and Imogen Heap/Frou Frou.

4. How long have you been playing?

Music? Since I was 6-7 I guess. Wizard rock? Since about February 2007.

5. Do you plan to continue having shows and writing songs even though the Harry Potter series has been completed, and why?

Definitely, because though the series is over, there're still things to write about. Yes there may be 8 billion love songs to Ginny, but there are billions of more ways to tackle that subject, and I believe this goes for almost anything else in the books. Plus, much like what The Remus Lupins did in "The Ballad of Neville and Luna," we still have the fanfic writers to give us new material/plot lines to tackle if we so choose.

6. What is your favorite part of being in a wizard rock band?

As stated before, the friends I've made and the people I've met. Plus the fact that people want me to come play shows in different states and stuff is beyond amazing to me. I've done music for the longest time, and this is, without a doubt, the best acknowledgment and feedback I've ever received from it. So that in itself is an amazing feeling.

7. What is your least favorite part of being in a wizard rock band?

As of right now, it's hard to find a bad thing. I don't have annoying "fan girls" yet, haha. But I guess the suckiest part is that this past summer I've gotten to make some of closest friends I've had in years, and the fact I wont get to see many of them for months because they live on different corners of the US or even in Canada, really, really blows, haha.

8. What advice do you have for potential future wizard rockers?

Advice? Geez, I dunno. For some reason the saying "Stick to your Guns" comes to mind. So I guess, all-in-all, don't be worried about how many friends you have, how many plays you get, etc... You're taking part in one of the best music movements ever. Don't let the little things get you down. Stick to your guns, be persistent about what you do. Be in everyone's face about your music. Don't give up.

9. How do you explain wizard rock to people who are new to the genre or to people who (heaven forbid) have never read Harry Potter?

Hahaha, I love the look on people's faces when I tell them that Catchlove is a Wizard Rock band and that I make music about Harry Potter. I recently told a friend and she had never read any of the books or seen the movies. She was one of the first I had to try to explain it to. I pretty much was blunt about it. "I make songs about events that take place in the Harry Potter series." "What's it sound like? Is it like music from the movies?" "No, you really need to read the books, and then give it a listen, it speaks for itself." That's all I could really say, haha.

10. Is your band completely DIY, and do you think that being completely DIY is an integral part of being a wizard rock band?

I am DIY. I do everything myself (sometimes with a little help from friends, but all around by myself.) I do think it's best wizrock stays that way. Now I'm not saying if you have means to use a professional studio or something not to. But wizard rock doesn't really need the influence of labels and stuff. It's best we keep it DIY. I feel like that if we have lables and stuff, it becomes some sort of competition between bands. And besides, being DYI allows you to have a more raw sound. Not everything needs to sound polished. But that's just my opinion.

11. Have you ever been approached by a corporate record-label asking to sponsor your band? If so, what was your reaction and if not, what would your reaction be in such a situation?

I haven't and I would say "Thanks, but no thanks." I wouldn't want some label telling me how to do my own music. For example, (some may have heard of this band) Playradioplay was a kid from my town. He went to high school with some of my friends. His music was brilliant. He did it all himself, and it was astounding. Around November of last year he got signed to Island Records and he now sounds nothing like he used to, and in my opinion sounds like crap. He sounds like any other band you'd hear on the radio or MTV. Why? Because the record label made him change his methods of making music. It's a damn shame. Off my soapbox now, haha (btw, if you do like him, or want to check him out, he was a big influence when i first started doing electronica music last summer, you can now purchase his Frequency EP at Best Buy.... just sayin').

12. Has your band ever had any copyright-infringement issues, and if so how have you dealt with them?

I have not, thank the lord, haha.

13. Is there any specific message you would like to share with your fans?

I love you all.

I don't know who Maxime thinks she's kidding. If Hagrid's half-giant, she definately is. Big bones... the only thing that's got bigger bones than her is a dinosaur.
