How Long Has This Been in the Works?
JK Rowling has said in numerous interviews that she hopes to publish some sort of encyclopedia once all seven books were released. The earliest hint came back in 2000, when Jo said during an online chat that any Potter book after the seventh would be an encyclopedia for charity.

What Will Be Included:
In a statement for the Lexicon lawsuit, JK Rowling stated that she "intends to publish a definitive guide to all of the creatures, characters, places, and other elements that comprise the Harry Potter world." We've also learned that Bloomsbury and Scholastic have created their own lexicons over the years, and those will be available to her as she writes. As of late February 2008, Jo already has the Bloomsbury lexicon in her posession. Fans do not have to worry about missing any information, because Jo says "to suggest that I would omit from my encyclopedia the information already made available in the novels, can only spring from a willful misinterpretation of a selective quotation."

In the MuggleNet/TLC interview back in July 2005, Jo also revealed a little more, saying she "could have fun with the minor characters and I could give the definitive biography of all the characters."

Jo's Encyclopedia VS the Harry Potter Lexicon:
In late 2007, JK Rowling and Warner Brothers took RDR Books, the publisher of HP-Lexicon.org's Harry Potter Lexicon by Steve Vander Ark. His book was set to be published in November of last year, however, JKR and WB halted the release until the court had made a decision. In September 2008, the judge decided in favor of JKR/WB, and publication was halted indefinitely.

More to Come:
As of right now, this is all of the information that we have. This page will be updated regularly as more details become available.
