Georgina Leonidas Discusses Her Character in “Awful Auntie”
Georgina Leonidas (Katie Bell) is currently starring in the play Awful Auntie at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London. Recently, she answered a few questions about the show for LondonTheatre1.com.
Leonidas started out by describing the plot of the play, which centers around her character, Stella. Following a car accident, Stella’s parents die, and she is left in a coma. Stella becomes the heir to her home, Saxby Hall, but when she awakens from her coma, she finds her Aunt Alberta searching for the house deeds.
Leonidas called Stella “a real tough cookie.” According to her, Stella is a character with many layers:
She has a strong moral compass and lets that guide her. I love that she also has a cheeky side brought out when playing tricks on Auntie. She is fun and mischievous as well as being intelligent and brave.
One of Leonidas’s favorite elements of the story is the friendship between Stella and Soot, who is a chimney sweep and a ghost. They grow close despite their class differences, and Leonidas mentioned that “this is more important than they know” because “there could be a plot twist you might not see coming.”
Awful Auntie is a great show for anyone to see. Leonidas said that families love it and “there is something for everyone.” She also pointed out that “the play is set in the days leading up to Christmas, so what better time to come and watch?”
