Imelda Staunton and Helen McCrory win theater awards
Many Potter alumni have taken to the stage over the last few years with great success, so it’s no surprise that many of them have won awards for their roles. Today, the UK Critics’ Circle Award winners were announced in a small ceremony in London.
Imelda Staunton’s (Professor Umbridge) musical, Gypsy, which is about to transfer to the West End, picked up the Peter Hepple Award for Best Musical (new or revival). Imelda plays Madame Rose, and the musical transfers to the West End at the end of March.
Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy) was named Best Actress for her performance in Medea. Medea was performed at the National’s Olivier Theater and ran last year.
Congratulations to both Imelda and Helen, a wonderful achievement and very well deserved!
