I made an editing mistake
Posted on 03 Nov 2007 by Andrew
In the middle of the show I accidentally left in a vulgar word. This was completely my mistake, and it's just one of many that we say during the show when we get frustrated over trying to get a point out. I apologize to anyone who may be upset by it or heard it around younger ears.

MuggleCast #118 is now available!
Posted on 03 Nov 2007 by Andrew
Let's face it, it's what makes good radio. In this week's episode of our Harry Potter podcast, Laura, Eric and I discuss several hot topics that are sure to bring us lots of feedback from listeners:

- We discuss the impact of Equus coming to Broadway.
- The Lexicon Lawsuit is making a lot of press and we respond.
- Should the book hit store shelves or do WB and JKR have a point?
- We address some listener rebuttals, most of which focus on Dumbledore being gay.
- One listener asks us how to handle parents who are now considering banner the books from her.

All that and much more can be found on this week's show! To download, we recommend subscribing (for free) through iTunes. Once you click the link, make sure you press "Subscribe" so each new episode is automatically delivered to your computer. Enjoy!

MuggleCast #117 is here!
Posted on 29 Oct 2007 by Andrew
Ben returns to our Harry Potter podcast this week and there's so much discussion, it requires a lot more than just one pint of butterbeer. Laura, Micah, Eric and I join Ben in going over everything JK Rowling revealed at her book reading last week at Carnegie Hall, including:

- Dumbledore is gay - initial thoughts from the hosts!
- Eric gives us a full report on MuggleCast LIVE in Australia!
- We go over each of the questions answered at the October 19th reading in NYC.
- Andrew, Laura, and Micah talk about meeting Jo. (Yes, life is now complete.)
- Should Jo have revealed Dumbledore's sexuality?
- Why does it matter, and why is it front-page news?
- The hosts become quite opinionated when it comes to fans who act as though Dumbledore being gay tarnishes his character.

All that and much more comes in this very entertaining and important episode of MuggleCast. We want to warn listeners that this episode does contain mature discussion and nothing within the show should be taken personally if it were to offend you (which we're pretty sure it won't).

With that said, we recommend subscribing for free in iTunes if you're a new listener (current listeners: update your feed). Enjoy!

Do You Come from a Land Down Under?
Posted on 26 Oct 2007 by Eric
Did you attend a MuggleCast Down Under event in either Sydney or Melbourne last weekend?

If so, THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES! That was GOOOOOOD FUN!

Video footage from both shows was taken, and will quite possibly be released 'professionally' and 'officially' via the MuggleCast podcasting feed as opposed to just audio, which was mentioned during the show. At any rate, a few video clips are available currently, through YouTube:

Sydney Clip 1
Melbourne Clip 1
Melbourne Clip 2

Special thanks to 'wayway2geeky' for posting the Sydney one. At any rate, the events were both highly successful and incredibly fun. We'll be posting footage as it is made available, and so far there is quite a large photo collection on Facebook through those channels. If you have photos that you'd like to submit or any feedback to give, you can of course do so at our still active MCDU email address, mugglecastoz@gmail.com.

For both the Sydney and Melbourne events, we know that some of you had to miss out because of exams and other unexpected commitments. We don’t want you to totally miss out, though, and in light of this, we have chosen to announce that we are actually still selling our MuggleCast Down Under Tees via mail order!

So, if you wanted to attend an event but couldn't or RSVPed to us but couldn't make it at the last minute, you can still support the show by getting your piece of memorabilia - it IS officially memorabilia now, collectors items (!) - for the same price as you could have before hand, and now when we ship to anywhere in Oz! So, even if you lived too far to come along, you can still get a tee shirt and support the show. This is also a way to let myself and the other MuggleCasters know that you want us to come to Australia again!

The first post-orders we get will be shipped WITH a shiny MuggleCast sticker, which only ONE Aussie who attended the event actually walked away with (namely because I forgot to bring them and had another prize instead!) So you even get a little something special that would not otherwise even be found in Australia or attainable by any ways other than this post-order. ALSO, in addition to PayPal, HP Events Australia is now allowing for money order payments as well! The full explanation on how exactly to do one is of course on the site at the order form.

AND finally, by request, we have the video files available for download which the OTHER MuggleCasters submitted to help with the process of the shows in both Sydney and Melbourne! They are in QuickTime MOV format and all under 10MB:

Micah's News (played in both Sydney and Melbourne!)
Ben's Debate Segment (aired only in Sydney!)
Jamie's Making the Connection (played only in Melbourne!)

In conclusion we would just like to thank the brilliant team at Harry Potter Events Australia: Bianca Smith, Kiera Eames, Kirsty Pepper, Courtney and Rhianna Bezzina, and Erica Crombie; our thanks go out as well to Jenna Pres and her brilliant family, Natalie Roche, Linda Soo and her UTS crew, Camilo Mella-Zannoni, Ben and Chris Underwood, Michael Writhe, and every single Aussie boy, girl, man and woman who attended the podcast and made it simply so great and exciting! It was lovely to meet you all! For those who were not able to attend, please do consider taking some memorabilia home with an MC Down Under Tee Shirt. That's all! Cheers!

How strange, how strange...

UPDATE: We're getting better and we'll be recording a show covering all of last weekend's developments on Friday. We hope to have that show up no later than late Friday night or Saturday! Thank you for your patience.

As you've noticed, there hasn't been a new episode of MuggleCast released this week. Trust us, we're dying to talk about all of the news JK Rowling revealed in NYC a few days ago, but get this...

Timeline of events
- Thursday evening: My throat begins to hurt.
- Friday evening: I begin to lose my voice.
- Sunday: My voice is lost.
- Monday, 7 PM: Laura calls and tells me her voice is gone.
- Monday, 10 PM: Micah IMs and tells me his voice is gone.

All three of us were hanging out this weekend in NYC for the reading, so something definitely spread. Apparently other people around us haven't gotten anything (yet), but this is very unlucky cause we're the only three hosts who went to the reading.

We had planned on recording a show sometime over the weekend but couldn't, and now this problem seems to be getting worse. We DO intend on having a show out by this upcoming Sunday, but if our voices don't return then there's gonna be a problem with getting a show out anytime soon.

Updates to come... *pops in a Halls*

MuggleCast STILL Down Under!
Posted on 20 Oct 2007 by Eric
Hello, everyone! Two main points to this newspost: FIRST, the SYDNEY event went VERY WELL! We want to thank EVERYONE who attended, everyone who wanted to attend and everyone who helped out in all the various ways. SPECIAL thanks go out right here to Sydney-siders Jenna Pres and her lovely family, Elizabeth Fong and Joshua Lee, Linda Soo, Celine, and Josh of SpellCast (the wonderful camera crew!), Camilo Mella-Zannoni the Wizard Rocker, and the staff and company of the University of Technology Sydney for providing us with the venue that made the event *just that much* more orange! Also special thanks to Janelle Thomas, Zoe Townsend, and her daughter for their contributions!

Footage from the first show will be posted as it becomes available. On ANOTHER note, our Melbourne event is happening tomorrow!

Once again the event begins at 2pm, and doors will open half an hour before at 1:30. If there are conflicting times, THESE are the correct ones. =)

If you have any questions you may email us at mugglecastoz@gmail.com. We're really excited about doing Melbourne after the success of Sydney and are sure that it will be quite an amazing show and experience for all! If you can make it, we'll see you there!
