Fan Art of The Week: Bellatrix delivers ‘The Fatal Blow’
This week’s Fan Art submission, which can be seen in it’s entirety here, comes from a young and talented artist depicting an evil Bellatrix during the final battle at Hogwarts. To see all of our Fan Art submissions: go to our Fan Art Section.
Our picture comes from Clare, age 14, who has been a fan of the Harry Potter series ever since she was introduced to the audiobooks when she was six. The title of her submission is “The Fatal Blow”, referring to the scene where Bellatrix murders her cousin Tonks who, most unfortunately, is one of Clare’s favorite characters. According to the artist, this piece was done in sharpie, colored pencils, water colors, and was further edited with the program Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X1.
Noah’s Notes: Clare intended for the light from the “Avada Kedavra” to both bring out detail and also Bellatrix’s psychotic nature, and I think she achieves that here for the witch certainly looks demonic; savage, even. The colors added to the face really support that wild aesthetic. I love the blue towards the bottom, too, which both forms her cloak and adds to the vortex-like quality of the picture as a whole. Truly, this is an excellent representation of Bellatrix at her finest and most evil moment! Ironic, considering at this point in the text her demise is just around the corner: “NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU…”
