Quibble of the Week: ‘Harry Potter and the Nerdy Feminist’
Our next featured Quibble of the Week was written by Rosie, who endeavors to read Potter as it relates to issues of feminism. Noting prominent female characters of the series, such as Ginny, Hermione, Molly Weasley and even Bellatrix, the writer discovers many different (even contradictory) presentations of femininity in the text.
How do you feel the women of Harry Potter are depicted in the books? As a woman writer, herself, is J.K. Rowling making any claims about gender relations underneath the guise of her magical storyline?
