“Deathly Hallows – Part 2” named semi-finalist for Best Visual Effects Oscar

As the Oscar buzz continues to grow, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 has taken one step closer to being nominated in the category of Best Visual Effects.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences named the 15 semi-finalists yesterday. The final Potter film is up against the likes of Hugo, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and X-Men: First Class.

The list of 15 will be narrowed down to 10 next month, and in the end five will be nominated for the award on Jan. 24.
