MuggleNet Throwback: J.K. Rowling and Dr. Neil Murray marry this week in 2001
This week back in 2001, author of the Harry Potter series, Joanne Rowling married Dr. Neil Murray on December 26 in the library at their home in Pertshire, Scotland.
They had originally planned to marry on a trip to the Galapagos Islands, but cancelled the plans after word leaked to the press. In order to keep the wedding a secret, they held a private 20 minute ceremony with only 15 guests, which included Rowling’s father Peter, stepmother Janet, and Dr. Murray’s father and mother Ernest and Barbara.
Three bridesmaids for Rowling included her daughter Jessica, Joanne’s sister Dianne, and Dr. Murray’s sister Lorna.
They hired caterers from Edinburgh and minister J.S. Richardson of St. Columbia’s Episcopal Church in Edinburgh.
On behalf of MuggleNet and the fans of Harry Potter around the world, we extend our sincere Congratulations to Joanne Rowling and Dr. Neil Murray on their 10-year anniversary!
