Alan Rickman’s “Seminar” voted favorite show 2011; and Darren Criss prepares to open ‘How to Succeed’ tomorrow night
Just last week, we reported that Dan Radcliffe was named as Broadway.com’s ‘Star of the Year’ by fan voting. Today, we are proud to report that another Harry Potter star, Alan Rickman – who portrayed the double-agent Severus Snape – received some recognition for his Broadway hit Seminar.
Seminar has just been awarded Broadway.com’s Favorite Broadway Show of 2011, as voted on by the fans amassing an amazing 31% of the total votes. Congratulations to Alan Rickman and the cast and crew of Seminar.
In related Broadway news, Darren Criss is set to open his version of J. Pierrepont Finch in the hit show How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in place of Dan Radcliffe tomorrow night. In a recent report by The New York Times, Darren Criss was called a triple threat – a person who can act, sing and dance. In fact, Darren can dance a little too well:
“What you are doing is almost too good!” said director Rob Ashford, who wanted Mr. Criss’s feet to be flat and extend sideways like an outstretched marionette because the character should lack finesse, while Darren was tucking his feet as a professional dancer would. Needless to say, Darren was leaping with precise imprecision a few moments later.
Darren Criss will be performing the role for the next three weeks, which is relatively rare for a newcomer to Broadway. However, we are certain we will see Darren’s name in lights on Broadway soon enough.
