Could “Deathly Hallows – Part 2” be out of a Visual Effects nomination for the Oscars because of a bake-off mistake?
During last night’s annual visual effect’s bake-off – a lengthy branch-specific event that features reel screenings of effects works on the seven (7) Visual Effects finalists for the Academy Awards and presentations from the supervisors involved in that department – could dramatically effect the selection chances of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 into the Final nomination ballot.
David Cohen of Variety is a leading expert when it comes to the world of visual effects and comprehensive reports from the annual bake-off. And according to his twitter, the reel from the Potter team, including Visual Effects Supervisor Tim Burke, turned out to be the wrong reel. They inadvertently presented the “Makeup” reel to the selection committee.
Eventually, they did get to show the proper visual effects reel, but the damage might have already been done. We will find out on Tuesday when the nominations for the Academy Awards are presented.
Let’s hope this mistake didn’t cost Deathly Hallows – Part 2 and Tim Burke’s visual effects team a chance at the Oscar!
