Pottermore: “Will not be opening to new users in the immediate future”

If you were one of the lucky fans to gain access to the Beta test programs on Pottermore last July, you should consider yourself lucky. As millions of Harry Potter fans are still waiting for the public access to open on the site, it appears that the delay will be quite significant….again!

For millions of fans of the Harry Potter book series by author J.K. Rowling, the final book was a traumatic time for one reason: There would be no more Harry Potter to read. Sure, we still had the final movies to look forward to, but this past summer marked the conclusion of the film series as well. Where were we going to go to get our Harry Potter fix?

J.K. Rowling gave us that sheer unflappable breath of excitement last year when she had teamed up with Sony to bring us Pottermore, which would include never before released material and information on our favorite magical world. It was stated that J.K. Rowling had written over 18,000 words for the site, and for us Potter enthusiasts, we were pumped with adrenaline, staying up all night to try and gain access to this new world on the Internet.

However, the excitement of the site has certainly been marred by both technical issues and a severe lack of content. Yes, we learned some new material during the Beta program, but once this material was known, we were looking for more and not finding it. Additionally, for those individuals who are still waiting for the public access that was originally set to open this past October, the delay has been extremely frustrating, and it’ll only get worse as time moves on.

According to a new article by Guardian reporter and Harry Potter affectionado Shoshana Kessler (one of the millions still waiting to get in), the Pottermore team wrote back to her inquiry of when the site will be opening to receive this official statement in her email:

“We have decided to further extend the beta period so we can improve Pottermore before giving more people access. This means the site will not be opening to new users in the immediate future.”

Disappointed? Frustrated? It is understandable that the excitement of Pottermore has escaped if not vanished into non-being, but can the site recapture your interest when it does in fact open?
