Emma Watson’s “Perks of Being a Wallfower” now rated PG-13

As you may recall from last month, Emma Watson’s new film The Perks of Being a Wallflower received an ‘R’ rating from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) for “teen drug and alcohol use, and some sexual references.” This rating was immediately appealed by Summit Entertainment as the restriction would certainly hurt box office attendance.

While the MPAA’s website has not been changed or updated at this time, Deadline is now reporting that the film rating has been overturned by the appeal and is currently listed as ‘PG-13’ for “mature thematic material, drug and alcohol use, sexual content including references, and a fight – all involving teens.”

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is based on the book by novelist Stephen Chbosky and is set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania during the 1991-1992 school year. The story follows the school year of the main character Charlie, played by Logan Lerman, and explores topics such as introversion and the awkward times of adolescence.

Although we have no official word on when this film will be released, it should be later this year.
