Call for Team USA Quidditch player nominations for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London
The International Quidditch Association (IQA) is now calling for nominations by Team Captains in the United States for the players on their team who exhibit excellence in sportsmanship and athleticism to participate in the exhibition matches that are being scheduled at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
At this time, the United States team that will be assembled will play a team from the United Kingdom, but may also include games against Finland, France, Canada, Australia, and any other nations that are able to send a team.
The nominations that are selected will be responsible for having an open availability at the time of the event, currently estimated for July 8 to coincide with an Olympic Torch ceremony taking place just outside London. The nominee will also be responsible for contributing to the IQA’s fundraising efforts to cover the costs of airfare, accommodations, and uniforms.
Our UK contacts have already set aside a house for 10 players. If you live in the UK near London and would also like to help accommodate housing for a Quidditch team member, please contact the IQA.
The IQA will need to raise at least $2000 per player to cover the items listed above, and it is expected that players will work hard with IQA volunteers and use IQA fundraising tools, resources, and networks to actively cover as much of their cost as possible.
All captains nominating one of their players for this incredible honor of representing the United States at the Summer Olympic Games should send the following information in with their nominations:
- Nominee’s first and last name
- Associated team
- Preferred position
- Relevant statistics (optional)
- Previous Quidditch experience
