MuggleNet Throwback: May 15, 2004 J.K. Rowling reveals her new website
It was eight years ago this week, that the Harry Potter author opened up her new website to the world. The website that grabbed our attention as we explored her “Rubbish Bin”, “Extras”, “Links”, “Rumors”, and so much more looking for the little tidbits of information that the author was willing to share with us.
As we strolled around the site, we found some amazing extras; like when you dialed a secret number into the cell phone (733837 for Peeves, or 62442 for Magic) you would unlock items from J.K. Rowling’s scrapbook. Or venture into the “Extra Stuff” Section and listen to Tilden Toots on the radio. One of our proudest moments was seeing MuggleNet listed on J.K. Rowling’s Fan Site Awards list.
Of course, the website also revealed so many new secrets regarding the Harry Potter series through the locked door: the title for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, W.O.M.B.A.T. tests, and so much more.
The website still remains the property of J.K. Rowling, but today it is completely revamped with a new look where she recently announced her soon-to-be-released book, The Casual Vacancy. Long gone are the days of the messy desk that definitely had a personality all to its own.
