Really CNN? Anchor mocks Muggle Quidditch on morning program
UPDATE: Feeling a bit upset about this whole incident our own Caleb Graves tweeted Soledad O’Brien this evening at which point she tweeted back this response:
I know. I take it back. I mean, it IS silly. But I shouldn’t have said it. I take it back. I hope it becomes an olympic sport.
Candid all the way through, O’Brien has now apologized. Thanks! But do keep in mind this is a real sport – silly though it may seem.
Just this morning on CNN’s program The Starting Point hosted by Soledad O’Brien, Muggle Quidditch got a major plug, but it wasn’t exactly positive.
After a video compilation featuring gameplay from the past Olympics event, and happy testimonials from players and even IQA chairman Alex Benepe, O’Brien and co-hosts proceeded to mock the game – O’Brien saying “Wearing gold tights? That sport is never going to be an Olympic sport.”
This flys in the face of what Alex Benepe and college kids worldwide have put together for the past few years very organically, without support from any big Potter players like Rowling or WB.
As we announced yesterday, the 2013 Quidditch World Cup will take place April 13-14 in Kissimmee, Florida. This news writer can only hope this international innitiative will get more respectful coverage in the future.
