Scholastic launches “Harry Potter Reading Club” with a special virtual visit by J.K. Rowling
The celebration of J.K. Rowling’s and Harry Potter’s birthday continues as earlier we announced the latest update to the “Wizard’s Collection”, and now we are announcing another incredible story.
Scholastic has just announced a new Harry Potter Reading Club, which will be a collaboration between Scholastic, educators, libraries, after-school program coordinators and parents “who want to organize a book club with access to all the tools they need to host a Harry Potter Reading Club and celebrate the joy of reading. The first 10,000 registrants for the Club will receive a welcome kit including bookmarks, stickers and nametags.”
Author of the Harry Potter books, J.K. Rowling, will be appearing in a LIVE Virtual webchat to launch this new reading club for young readers on October 11, at 5:00 p.m. GMT/12:00 p.m. ET/9:00 a.m. PT. Rowling will be hosting the webchat from her home in Edinburgh and answering questions from young readers for the first time since 2007 when she read from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in New York City.
The Club includes a comprehensive discussion guide for each of the seven Harry Potter novels. The guides provide questions to help club members start an insightful conversation about the themes and events in the books and, in certain instances, how the books may relate to readers’ own lives and the world today. Each month Scholastic will add new themed activities to complement the Reading Club discussions that will often relate to experiences on the Pottermore website.
Head on over to the Reading Club website right here to sign up and learn more. MuggleNet will be covering this webchat with a live blog as it happens on October 11.
In the meantime, you should check out MuggleNet’s own reading club, which is currently leading a global re-read of the Harry Potter series – Alohomora!
