MuggleNet’s programming line-up at LeakyCon 2012
MuggleNet will be in full force at LeakyCon this coming week and will be involved in several events. Below is a listing of the major activities that we are involved in. We hope to see you all there!
MuggleCast – Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. (*Note the time change)
Join the hosts of this Harry Potter podcast as they discuss this year since the last movie and how things have changed – or maybe how it hasn’t changed at all.
Noah Fried – Friday at 3:00 p.m. – “Exploring the ‘Controversial Theory’ in a world post–Potter” – A close reading of Harry Potter – Northwest 5
At this roundtable, we will discuss the most controversial and popular essays we’ve gathered (the “Quibbles of the Week” at the top, which have collectively yielded thousands of comments and shares through Facebook and Twitter) and a Quibble–writing workshop. For this particular workshop I would channel the strategies of Dr. Rosenwasser for “close–reading” as seen in his new book, Writing Analytically, to show conference–goers a very cool method to think about Harry Potter critically and then formulate intuitive Quibbles from those ideas.
Alohomora! scavenger hunt – Friday all day – Kat Miller, Caleb Graves, Noah Fried, Laura Reilly, Rosie Morris
The Alohomora! team is holding an interesting scavenger hunt that will take place throughout Friday. Get the clues from the team, and search throughout the hotel to find the answers. Prizes awarded to the winners. Register at the MuggleNet table in the vendor room.
The Alohomora! team will also be holding a roundtable discussion on Saturday. Time and location to be determined.
MuggleNet Academia co-host John Granger – Friday and Saturday 10:00-11:30 a.m., 1-3:00 p.m. – “Why We Love the Hogwarts Saga: The Artistry and Meaning of Harry Potter”
John Granger, a.k.a. “The Hogwarts Professor,” has been dubbed the “Dean of Harry Potter Scholars” by TIME because of his eight books on the subject and consistent insights into the saga’s artistry and meaning. At LeakyCon, John will be giving a two-day series of four classes on the Harry Potter novels – “Ten Things You Didn’t know About Harry Potter: The Medley Edition”; “Writing in Circles: Harry Potter and the Magic of Ring Composition”; “Harry Potter Unlocked: The Seven Synergistic Keys to the Hogwarts Saga”; and “The Eyes of Deathly Hallows: Harry Potter’s Corrected and Transforming Vision.” These classes will definitely open your mind to the fascinating literature within the Harry Potter novels.
Vendor table
Stop by the MuggleNet table in the vendor room, and say hello to the members of the MuggleNet team. We will be selling MuggleNet and Alohomora! T-shirts and are anxious to meet you all there.
MuggleNet staff attending the convention include Alison Fahey, Noah Fried, Caleb Graves, Keith Hawk, Kat Miller, Rosie Morris, Laura Reilly, Eric Scull, Tina Short, and Micah Tannenbaum. We are anxious to meet all of you who are attending the most exciting convention of the year!
