Chestnut Hill celebrates 3rd Annual “Harry Potter Weekend” starting this Friday
Calling all witches, wizards and muggles: Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is bringing back its bewitchingly popular Harry Potter Weekend for 2012, once again magically transforming the neighborhood’s businesses along Germantown Avenue into restaurants and shops straight off the pages of J.K. Rowling’s books.
Quidditch: This weekend will appeal to fans of all ages as it will include the Brotherly Love Quidditch Tournament with 16 highly competitive Muggle Quidditch teams including: Vassar, the University of Rochester, Lafayette College, Stony Brook University, Villanova University, Ithaca Community Quidditch Team, Philadelphia Honey Badgers (formerly Del Val Dragons), University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Hofstra, Shippensburg, Kutztown, University of New Haven, CUNY Honors College, Brandeis University, University of Pennsylvania, and Franklin and Marshall College.
Academia: Chestnut Hill College will host an academic conference on “Harry Potter: Reflections on the Major Themes in J.K. Rowling’s Literature” on Friday, October 26, from 3-5 p.m. in the Rotunda, St. Joseph Hall. The conference is an academic outlet for students, faculty and other scholars to present papers/research related to the Harry Potter book series. MuggleNet Academia‘s student guest Kait Zelenenki will be presenting a lecture on Lycanthropy as a metaphor for homosexuality.
Restaurants and retailers transformed: Many local retailers and pubs will be transformed to showcase stores from Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley.
