The Vatican admires J.K. Rowling but not ‘The Casual Vacancy’
Another review of the new adult novel by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is in, and this time The Vatican gives The Casual Vacancy its opinion.
According to a new article by The Telegraph, The Vatican’s Holy See’s official newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, stated that it had “only admiration” for the author of the Harry Potter series, congratulated her for her donations to charity in 2011 “thanks to the power and fantasy produced by her pen“, but said her adult book was unconvincing and it “disappoints“.
The magazine was founded 151 years ago and has a long history for serious articles written on Catholic saints, interviews with cardinals, and official Pope engagements. But under Pope Benedict XVI, the paper has expanded to include more pop culture including a recent piece on the new Bond film Skyfall, which recently eclipsed Harry Potter as the highest grossing film in the first week of release.
MuggleNet has provided a few of its initial reviews as well, which you can read right here.
