Golden Globe nominations include some familiar names from “Harry Potter”
Today the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominations for the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Amid the nominees were a few recognizable names of both on-camera and behind-the-scenes members of the Harry Potter films.
Dame Maggie Smith, who portrayed Professor Minerva McGonagall, was nominated in two categories: Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical, for Quartet, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture made for Television, for Downtown Abbey: Season 2.
Another Potter actor nominated was Toby Jones, known for lending his voice to the beloved character of Dobby in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. Jones was nominated in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture made for Television, for his role in HBO’s The Girl, in which he played Alfred Hitchcock.
Two composers who worked on the Harry Potter films were nominated for Best Original Score- Motion Picture. John Williams, who wrote the score for the first three Potter films, was nominated for Lincoln, and Alexandre Desplat, who composed the final two Potter films, was nominated for Argo.
