Ireland to host country’s first Muggle Quidditch intervarsity event next month

by Keith Hawk · January 16, 2013

MuggleNet SnitchCenter will be bringing you lots of Muggle Quidditch news over the next few months as we gear up for the Quidditch World Cup coming to Kissimmee, Florida, in April. If you have not made plans to attend this event, now is the time to do so. It will be an event you do not want to miss.

In other Muggle Quidditch news, according to a recent article by NUI Galway OÉ Gaillimh, the NUIG will be hosting Ireland’s first ever Muggle Quidditch intervarsity event on February 22 and 23 in Galway.

According to the article, there will be a Diagon Alley of sorts inside the foyer of Aras na Mac Leinn on the university campus. Guest speakers will be giving talks about the Harry Potter series, and common rooms will be available to gather and discuss the event with other attendees.

On Saturday, February 23, NUIG, DCU, NCI, and Blancharstown IT will take to the Quidditch pitch to battle for the Quidditch Cup. There will even be a formal Harry Potter-themed ball in the beautiful Clayton Hotel after the event.

For more information on this event, check out their Facebook page, Facebook group, or blog post.

Did You Know

Quidditch started in the 11th century at a place called Queerditch Marsh, which is not marked on Muggle maps because wizards have made the place unplottable. Originally, it was quite a crude game played on broomsticks with just the Quaffle.

Potter History

January 3, 2006 – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was named the highest-earning film internationally for 2005. It earned $850 million.

Potter Quote

“Cedric was a person who exemplified many of the qualities that distinguish Hufflepuff house. He was a good and loyal friend, a hard worker, he valued fair play. His death has affected you all, whether you knew him well or not. I think that you have the right, therefore, to know exactly how it came about. […] Cedric Diggory was murdered by Lord Voldemort.”
