Video from J.K. Rowling and her charity “Lumos” as they launch online petition
J.K. Rowling is the Founder and Chair of the board of Trustees of Lumos, a charity that strives to find loving and caring families for the 8 million children that are currently living in institutions because they are poor, disabled, or from an ethnic minority around the world.
Lumos is launching a new initiative and you, the Harry Potter fanbase, can help. They have launched an online petition, which calls on the European Parliament, Council and Commission to ensure that European Union structural funds are used for the transition from institutional to family and community-based services. You can sign it here: http://www.wearelumos.org/get-involved/take-action
There is only a short time left to promote this initiative as European leaders agreed to the new seven-year budget of the European Union on Friday. This means that very soon negotiations on what to spend European Union funds will come to an end. Time is running out to ensure that these funds will be used so that children all over Europe can grow up in loving families – not in institutions. This is why we are reaching out to you so as many supporters as possible are able to sign the petition in the next few weeks.
