Daniel Radcliffe Wins Empire Hero Award
UPDATE: Video with Dan talking about winning the Empire Award has been added in this post!
Daniel Radcliffe was presented with the Empire Hero gong at this evening’s Empire Film Awards for being, in the words of the magazine itself, ‘generally pretty ace.’
To present the award was Woman in Black director, James Watkins, who commented that Daniel’s “desire to take risks is why I cast him.” On collecting his Empire statuette, Radcliffe thanked the magazine for having “always been ‘unpatronising’ of Potter and myself” as well as acknowledging the directors willing to take a chance on him and see him as something other than Potter.
This wasn’t Daniel’s only award of the night however, because Woman in Black took home the award for Best Horror, as voted for by the public.
Held annually in London, the Jameson Empire Awards are a celebration of the year’s films with the majority of the awards nominated and voted upon by the readers of EMPIRE Magazine. To read a full account of the evening’s events, check about the live blog.
Although he has long been considered a hero by the Potter fandom, it is great to see Daniel receiving such awards from the larger film community. Three cheers to Radcliffe!
