A Magical Walk To Remember
How many children can say that they’ve had the pleasure of walking to school with Hagrid? Nine-year-old Anna from Newton Aycliffe in County Durham, England is one of the few who can claim bragging rights.
As the winner of a local MEGA (Move Everybody Get Active) Motion Campaign, which encourages children and their families to get their 60 active minutes in while heading to school, Anna Shorten was allowed to pick a theme for her walk to classes at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School.
For this magical walk last week, Anna and her classmates dressed up as characters from the Harry Potter book series and were surprised when Hagrid, an actor from the Histrionics drama company, showed up to escort them to class. He also led a special assembly to talk about environmentally friendly travel, like the walk he had just taken with the children, as well as the health benefits of walking and cycling to school.
Getting active and staying active is good for you. Would you participate in an environmentally friendly and heart healthy walk to school if you could choose any theme? Tell us what theme you would pick if you were the winner of such a contest by adding your comments below!
