Role Call: New Roles for “Potter” Alums!
It’s been a busy few weeks for veterans of the Harry Potter films! Here’s what’s on the horizon for some of our favorite alums:
- Alexandre Desplat, composer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, will score an upcoming reboot of the classic Godzilla, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Ken Watanabe. The release date is set for 2014.
- Bill Nighy, who portrayed Rufus Scrimgeour, will star with Dominic West in Pride, a film that tells the story of the gay community and the mining community banding together to push back against Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s. Pride, which is based on a true story, will begin filming in October.
- Ryan Turner, who played Hugo Weasley, tweeted that he has landed a role in Skorned:
I am pleased to say I have been cast in another film called @Skorned1 playing a devil. Will film later this year I fancy playing #evilrole

Skorned will be a dark supernatural thriller about a woman named Natasha who sold her soul in return for revenge on her parent’s killers.
- Last but not least, Helen McCrory, who portrayed Narcissa Malfoy, will join the cast of Showtime’s horror drama Penny Dreadful. The show is an eight-episode series telling alternative versions of some of horror’s most famous figures, like Dr. Frankenstein and Dracula. Helen will plan a spiritualist named Madame Kali.
