Helena Bonham Carter featured in Christmas advert for Marks and Spencer
It’s that time of year again, a time of joy and merriment. Yes, Christmas is almost upon us and already the annual adverts have started to clog our television and computer screens. This year, Harry Potter’s very own Helena Bonham Carter appears in a festive advert for the UK-founded department store, Marks and Spencer (M&S). She is instantly recognizable as the villainous witch we all love to hate, Bellatrix Lestrange. In M&S’s holiday advert, she plays a wizard… of sorts.
This year, M&S decided to give their ad a magical, fairytale theme, and Bonham Carter plays the head of the great and powerful wizard from L. Frank Baum’s famous children’s favorite The Wizard of Oz.
Bonham Carter is not unknown to taking the more quirky role, and she commented on this appearance:
I live with Tim Burton, so for me to play the dismembered head of a wizard is a normal thing to do.
The ad revolves around two other well-known fairytales, Aladdin and Alice in Wonderland, and stars British models Rosie Huntington-Whitely and David Gandy. It airs for the first time on television today.
