Last month, the Midwest Regional Championships were held in Rockford, IL with admittance to play in Quidditch World Cup VII on the line. Since only fifteen eligible spots for the Midwest Region were available, pool play and bracket play were incredibly crucial to punch their ticket to the World Cup.
The WINNER of the Midwest Regional Championships: Bowling Green State University (BGSU) defeated the Kansas Jayhawks with a final score of 70* – 60. The BGSU caught the snitch to end the game as the Midwest Champions.
Joining the Jayhawks and BGSU at the Quidditch World Cup next April will be the following teams: Ball State University, Central Michigan University, the Crimson Warhawks, Grand Valley State University, Marquette University, Miami University at Ohio, Michigan State University Spartans, Ohio State University, TC Frost, the University of Michigan Wolverines, the University of Minnesota, the University of Missouri, and the University of Toledo.
Congratulations to all of the Midwest Teams advancing to the Quidditch World Cup.
Other recent tournament highlights include Emerson College defeating Tufts 160* – 30 to be crowned champions of this year’s Turtle Cup that took place at University of Maryland. And this past weekend, the Cowboy Cup took place in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Baylor University destroyed Oklahoma State University in the final match to be crowned champions with a 150* – 10 final score.
Upcoming tournaments this weekend include the Canadian Cup taking place in Toronto, Ontario. McGill University has been the sole champion of this tournament since its inception in 2011. Sixteen teams will battle to lay claim as the Canadian Quidditch Champion. Who do you feel will win this year? The top FOUR (4) teams will be granted a guaranteed spot on the Quidditch World Cup VII qualified team list.

In other Muggle Quidditch news, the International Quidditch Association (IQA) has reformatted the world standings algorithms to allow it to be more intuitive. There are four primary parts to the formula:
- SWIM (“Snitch When It Matters”)
- Strength of schedule
- Adjusted win percentage
- Penalties

Finally, make your plans NOW for what is sure to be an amazing Quidditch World Cup at North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex on April 5th and 6th.
