Role Call: New Year, New Roles!
We’re starting the new year off small, but we know it’s going to be a great year for new roles in films and television and with any luck, more information about that screenplay J.K. Rowling is working on. With that in mind, let’s take a look at how our favorite Harry Potter alumni are kick-starting their 2014!
A trailer for After the Dark, previously known as The Philosophers, starring Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), has been made available in preparation for the theatrical and On Demand release of the film on February 7. You may recall that Bonnie recently released a video for Nowness, starring her friend Sophie Lowe. In the trailer, which you can view above (and you should!!!), both Bonnie and Sophie star in this thriller about a group of students who take part in an experiment meant to simulate an apocalyptic event that yields shocking results. Look closely and you can also catch sight of another HP actor, Freddie Stroma (Cormac McLaggen), at about one minute in. A movie poster was previously released in mid-December, which you can view here.
As reported last week, two extended clips from Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel, starring Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort), were released. However, that’s not the only bit of news. In an article released just before the new year, Fiennes revealed that while he is indeed the new M for the next installment of the James Bond series, taking over for Dame Judi Dench, he says he has no idea what the plot will be for the film.
I know nothing, I’ve not been told anything, I have no information, no dates, no sense of the journey of my character at all! I don’t!
The only information we currently have on his role is that he is playing MI6 chief Gareth Mallory. Will his character be a good guy, or will another Bond baddie be born? Playing Lord Voldemort will have certainly helped if the chief turns out to be evil. We look forward to learning more about his role and promise to keep everyone up to date as the information is released!
Make sure to set your DVRs for BBC’s The Graham Norton Show! Airing Tuesday, January 7, Graham chats with Julie Walters (Molly Weasley) about her role in Harry Hill: The Movie and being mistaken for other famous celebrities. Check your local listings for showtimes, or catch it On Demand.
Warwick Davis is at it again. The actor who played multiple characters in the Harry Potter series has once again earned himself a theatrical role. The play, See How They Run, about a group of vicars and a case of mistaken identity, will open March 3 for a mere six days at the Belgrade Theater during the Spring Season, offering showings nightly, as well as matinees. You can learn more about the play and purchase tickets here.
