Brendan and Domnhall Gleeson, along with Ciarán Hinds, nominated for Irish Film and Television Awards
ScreenDaily has revealed the list for the 11th annual Irish Film and Television Awards, and the Best Actor category sees not one, not even two, but three Harry Potter actors competing for the award! Father and son Brendan and Domnhall Gleeson (Mad-Eye Moody and Bill Weasley) have both been recognized for their work at this year’s awards, the former for his role in Calvary and the latter for his role in About Time. Ciarán Hinds (Aberforth Dumbledore) is also nominated in the same category, for his film The Sea. The three Potter actors are up against Sherlock’s Andrew Scott, who is the fourth nominee.
Calvary has been nominated for a total of six nominations in film categories, including Best Film, Director, Script, Actress in a Supporting Role, Original Score, and of course, Best Actor. Including Hinds’s nomination, The Sea is also up for Best Film, Script, and Actress in a Supporting Role.
Additionally, Gravity (directed by Prisoner of Azkaban’s Alfonso Cuarón) has been nominated for Best International Film and International Actress (Sandra Bullock), Colin Farrell has been nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Saving Mr Banks (which also stars Emma Thompson (Professor Trelawney)), and Downton Abbey – which stars Dame Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall) – has been nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role Television (Allen Leech) and Production Design.
The awards will take place in Dublin on April 5. We wish everything and everyone Potter-related the very best of luck!
