One lucky Manchester fan could meet the creator of Lord Voldemort!
One lucky Manchester (UK) Harry Potter fan could win the chance to meet Shaune Harrison, the man who created the special effects on Lord Voldemort for the film series. The Printworks, a Manchester outdoor shopping center, is looking for someone to design its new mascot. The winning entry will be brought to life by Shaune, and the winner will get to meet and work alongside the special effects provider.
Shaune, who is opening his own makeup academy in Manchester later this year, started in the film industry in 1988. He has worked on many blockbuster films, including Harry Potter and Captain America, and won several awards, including one for Art Direction at the New York Short Film Festival.
Fred Booth, firector of the Printworks, said,
“I’m sure the winner will design us an awe-inspiring new mascot, which expert designer Shaune will then bring to life. We are very honoured to have the help of such a successful movie legend, and it’s a great opportunity for the winner to be part of such a unique experience.”
The competition will be split into three age categories – under 11s, under 16s, and 16 and over. The overall winning entry will be picked from the categories.
Booth elaborated further on the winner’s creation:
“The new mascot will be an essential member of The Printworks’ team and we want the new character to symbolise fun and entertainment, to be interesting, memorable and dynamic and to represent the legacy of The Printworks.”
The competition brief is as follows:
“We want our mascot to be interesting, dynamic and to represent The Printworks. The mascot has to symbolise fun. The Printworks would also like for the mascot to have a back story and history, perhaps connected with the legacy of the building.”
The competition closes on February 28, so if you’re in Manchester and creative, get designing! The winners will be announced mid-March.
