Stephen Fry backs Mind charity event Happy Monday
Stephen Fry, the narrator of the British Harry Potter audio books, has pledged his backing to Happy Monday, a charity fundraising event that will raise mental health awareness. Mind is a UK charity that promotes mental health issues and offers support and advice. The event particularly seeks to raise awareness of issues within workplaces, schools, and colleges.
Stephen, who has been the president of the UK charity since 2011, has spoken in the past about his own mental health issues. The event will
“combine fundraising with awareness-raising in response to the allegedly gloomy ‘Blue Monday’ – apparently the most depressing day of the year – which has just past.”
In order to take part, participants are invited to host their own bake-off or cook-off, alongside plenty of games and fun to take part in, with lots and lots of cake.
Stephen said about the event,
“I’m hoping the kind people of Britain will roll up their sleeves on March 10. [It’s a] delightful excuse to spend time with friends and loved ones, or to tempt colleagues away from their desks, to raise vital funds for the 1 in 4 people who experience a mental health problem every year.”
Stephen has provided the charity with his own favorite recipe:
“I’ve been inspired to dust off my favourite honey buns recipe for Happy Monday and have every faith in the creativity of Mind supporters to come up with their very own ways to brighten their Monday and raise money for this incredibly good cause.”
For those wishing to take part, or host their own event, you can find out more about the event here. The event will take place on Monday, March 10.
