Announcing the winner of the May “Quibbler” contest!
At the beginning of the month, we asked you to tell us about your favorite forgotten character in the Harry Potter series. We received a lot of great entries arguing on behalf of some seriously cool minor characters, but there can only be one winner!
Congratulations to Hannah Wegg, who wrote a fantastic defense of Mrs. Figg, your friendly neighborhood crazy cat Kneazle lady. Hannah argues that Mrs. Figg is not only an important member of the Order of the Phoenix but also that without her, Harry might never have been able to return to Hogwarts:
In Order of the Phoenix, when Harry and Dudley are attacked by Dementors, Mrs. Figg acts as a witness at Harry’s Ministry hearing. Before her account of the incident, the majority of the Wizengamot seems to be in favor of Harry’s prosecution, but it is her description of the way the Dementors made her feel that tips the verdict in Harry’s favor. What if Harry had been convicted and was never allowed back to Hogwarts? That would have been a completely different story!
Check out Hannah’s full editorial here. Do you agree that Mrs. Figg is one of the most important minor characters in the series? Do you think someone else deserves even more appreciation? Let us know in the comments!
