Interview with Imelda Staunton about her role in “Maleficent”
Imelda Staunton – who portrayed Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter films – was recently interviewed about her role in the upcoming Disney film Maleficent. Staunton is set to play Knotgrass, one of three pixies who take care of Princess Aurora in the movie, which is due to be released on Friday, May 30.
Imelda’s character, Knotgrass, along with her companions Flittle and Thistlewit, live as humans to care for Aurora for sixteen years. According to Staunton, “they don’t take to [being human] very well, but that’s where the humor comes out of.” The trio is supposedly the equivalent to the fairies Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather in the original 1959 film.
In the interview, Imelda speaks about her excitement of being in the film, stating,
Aren’t we lucky? Here we are, all grown-ups, dressing up as fairies and pixies; nothing better, quite frankly.
Miranda Richardson, whom Potter fans know best as Rita Skeeter, will also star in the film as Queen Ulla, Maleficent’s aunt.
