Miriam Margolyes helps fund Australian horror film “The Babadook”
Miriam Margolyes, the actress who portrayed Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films, recently gave money to help fund an Australian horror film entitled The Babadook.
The film stars Essie Davis, who befriended Margolyes on the set of the ABC detective series Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. Margolyes said the following about her willingness to contribute to Davis’s project:
When I heard Essie was in it, I thought I’d better do something. She is an extremely fine actor, I think one of the finest in the world.
The film received praise at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was ranked among the top two critics’ picks. It centers around a young mother (Davis) whose son suffers from night terrors and fear of a monster he thinks is lurking inside the house. You can check out the trailer here, but please note that the film is rated PG-13 for disturbing images and scares throughout. It may not be suitable for children under the age of thirteen.
The film is set to open with a limited release on May 22. Will you be going to see The Babadook?
