MuggleNet Throwback: Ron and Hermione’s Big Kiss
To say that July is a big month in the Potter world would be something of an understatement. So why not kick the month off with a very special MuggleNet Throwback to the press tour leading up to the release of Deathly Hallows, Part 2? It’s where the cast discussed the closing of the series and one of the most anticipated Potter moments to make it to cinemas: Ron and Hermione’s dramatic kiss in the Chamber of Secrets!
In a video released by The Telegraph three years ago this week, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint spoke candidly about what it was like filming their romantic moment after years of friendship. And as it turns out, filming the kiss was more “awkward” than pleasant. Grint described it as:
“It just felt so wrong, really, kissing this person who I’ve known since she was nine.”
Watson echoed her co-star’s sentiments of embarrassment and continued on to comment on the enormous pressure of the scene:
“Can you imagine building up to a kiss for ten years? We’ve been building up to this kiss for a decade! I was like, ‘How am I going to do this justice?!'”
The two adorably went on to admit that although filming the scene was nerve-wracking, they were really pleased with the end result. Even Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, weighed in on the moment in a separate interview in which he noted how lovely it was to see his good friends break into laughter right at the end of the scene. And frankly, we couldn’t agree more with him!
You can watch the full interview between Watson and Grint here as well as catch up on all the Deathly Hallows interviews on our MuggleNet Deathly Hallows Part 2 page. So tell us: was Ron and Hermione’s big moment everything you had hoped it would be?
