US Quidditch has today announced that the 2015 World Cup will be coming to Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, South Carolina, on April 11-12. The USQ World Cup will now become a North American championship, with teams from Canada, the United States, and Mexico eligible to qualify and compete.
This year three cities advanced to the finalist round for the World Cup event: Rock Hill, South Carolina; North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Austin, Texas.
USQ facilitates an extensive bidding process throughout the year in order to select worthy sites for its premiere events. This year, the competition was closer and more impressive than ever before. The bidding season started on Decemenber 16, 2013. After reviewing the bid manual, potential hosts submitted a letter of intent, along with the bid snapshot and the completed bid package, by March 7, 2014. USQ selected finalists from among the bids received were announced on the website. Staff conducted site visits of all the finalist locations over the months of May and June.
The following criteria were the primary factors in reaching the decision:
- Cost of hosting the event
- Cost for players and teams to travel
- Quality of facility
- Financial and in-kind support from the host city
- When possible, rotation between geographic areas
USQ said that they look forward to producing a fantastic World Cup event in 2015. Are you looking forward to next year’s event? Let us know in the comments.
