Mexican Man Named Owner of World’s Largest “Harry Potter” Collection by Guinness World Records
On September 29, a Mexican man by the name of Menahem Asher Silva Vargas was awarded the Guinness World Records title for the largest collection of Harry Potter memorabilia in the world. Silva Vargas, 37, first began his collection of everything to do with the wizarding world almost 15 years ago. The collection, which totals 3,097 pieces, fills two rooms, although Silva Vargas admits that was never his intention. Among the items he has amassed are toy figurines, trading cards, wands, replica Quidditch brooms, and versions of the Harry Potter books in multiple languages. When asked how he had managed to collect as much as he has, the Mexico City lawyer laughed, “My salary, my bonuses … it all ended up here.”
Not impressed, yet? As a comparison, the previous record-holder had possessed a collection of 807 items, while Hogsmeade Station Gift Shop (which sells the largest selection of Harry Potter classic and hard-to-find items anywhere in the world) currently has 1,074 different items available. In order to beat out Silva Vargas for the record, in other words, an individual would have to triple that inventory! All we can say to that is, “Merlin’s beard!”
