Becoming Harry Potter: Halloween adventurer #MNBHP
Professor McGonagall: Why is it, when something happens, it is always you three?
Ron Weasley: Believe me, Professor. I’ve been asking myself the same question for six years.

In celebration of Halloween, we’re taking a break from our regularly scheduled posts to look at some of Harry’s Halloweens to see if we might add a dab of adventure to our own celebrations this year.
The first Halloween of Harry’s we read about is the one that leaves him with a scar upon his forehead, sleeping on the Dursleys’ doorstep. Albeit not a Halloween to strive toward, but it is the first in his long line of adventures.
In Harry’s first year he caps off the Halloween feast by taking on a twelve-foot mountain troll in order to save know-it-all/teacher’s pet, Hermione Granger. Through this one act of foolhardy kindness, Harry (and Ron) find a life-long friend/future spouse.
In their second year, the trio attends a ghost death-day party, not because of the food but because Harry felt sorry for Nearly Headless Nick and offered to help by showing up. Then on their way to the Great Hall, Harry follows voices in the wall to the scene of a crime—the Chamber of Secrets was opened and Filch’s cat was attacked.
In his third year, the trio spends the night in the Great Hall after Sirius Black attacked the Fat Lady. And in his fourth year, Harry’s name is pulled out of the Goblet fire on Halloween.
Some of these adventures were not within Harry’s control, but the ones that were came about out of acts of kindness. First, running to save a girl from a troll. Second, by giving up a great feast to help a friend in need. What I’ve found is that our greatest adventures tend to lie at the end of random acts of kindness.
CHALLENGE:
This Halloween don’t just trick-or-treat. Make this year a year of adventure. Commit to doing at least one random act of kindness for someone in need—especially if that random act is for someone who is not necessarily your favorite person, or if that person has no way to pay you back. Be kind for the sake of being kind and see what adventures you find.
Share with us your RAK (random act of kindness) adventures using #MNBHP.
