Edinboro University to hold its fourth annual Potterfest
Magical festivities aplenty are planned for next week (October 13-18) when Edinboro University in Pennsylvania will hold its annual Potterfest to celebrate all things Potter-related. The six-day event will prove to be a jam-packed one when tons of activities for all ages are scheduled to take place, providing a wizard-hopping time for one and all, from a Quidditch competition to a Potterbowl trivia contest, and from the Hallows Ball to a special performance given by the Edinboro University Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Edinboro University Singers, presenting the music that we all know and love from the Harry Potter films. But it doesn’t end there!
On October 17 at 5:00 p.m. EDT at the Benjamin Wiley Arts and Sciences Center (Room 117), Dr. Lana Whited – professor of English at Ferrum College in Virginia (who is also editor of the book The Ivory Tower and Harry Potter: Perspectives on a Literary Phenomenon) – will be giving a talk entitled “The Ravenclaw Conference,” where the Potter books and themes will be discussed in great detail. And on October 18 at 10:00 a.m. EDT, back by popular demand, “A Day at the Castle” will take place at the Miller Center of the university campus
A bunch of new activities are set to go ahead, some of which include:
- New Potter parody skits as part of the program at 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 13, in Louis C. Cole Auditorium, Memorial Hall
- The area premiere of ‘Mudbloods’, a documentary film about Quidditch, at 7:30 p.m., on Oct. 13, immediately following the skits program in Cole Auditorium
- Three area school teams competing in the Triwizard Cup Tournament, which consists of [a] corn maze and haunted path challenges at Wooden Nickel Buffalo Farm, on Oct. 17, and a canoe race on Edinboro Lake, on Oct. 18.
Even the community of Edinboro itself will be getting in the wizarding spirit by decorating several of it’s stores “Harry Potter style.”
