“Harry Potter” lands position on both best AND worst book-to-film adaptations lists
It’s not unusual for Harry Potter to land itself on book, movie, and fandom lists, given the fact of how hugely popular it has been since Book 1 was first released. It has now made two more! Magical Menagerie reported earlier today that in a recent survey run by Vue Cinemas, Potter was awarded second place in best book-to-movie adaptations, with Lord of the Rings taking the No. 1 spot. HOWEVER, it was also voted as the LEAST favorite book-to-movie-adaptation in the same instance.
It does seem a little odd, to be voted as both the worst and second best film adaptations in the same survey, but it is understandable, given the amount of book material that was left out, obviously not pleasing some fans. On the subject, Vue had this to say:
The main gripe fans cited [was] major sub-plots missing from the movies – joint number one being the missing Peeves the Poltergeist character and the Quidditch World Cup storyline.
Hot on its heels was Hermione’s elf rights group, the oddly titled SPEW. Interestingly enough, women were bigger fans of the books than the movies, whereas males preferred its big screen counterpart.
Take a look at both top five lists below:
Worst:
- Harry Potter
- 50 Shades of Grey
- Lord of the Rings
- The Hobbit
- Twilight
Best:
- Lord of the Rings
- Harry Potter
- The Hunger Games
- Batman
- Bridget Jones’ Diary
Thank you to our friends at the Magical Menagerie for the info!
