MuggleNet celebrates 15-year anniversary
What started out as a project for a bored 12-year-old homeschooled boy by the name of Emerson Spartz has just had its 15th anniversary as the world’s No. 1 Harry Potter site, and we have been celebrating all day long on social media.
The “little site that could” became a powerhouse in the fandom in 2004 when Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling bestowed MuggleNet with a fan site award and stated on her website,
It’s high time I paid homage to the mighty MuggleNet.
MuggleNet has had an amazing run over the past 15 years thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who have roamed these halls and contributed massive amounts of time and energy to its development and expansion. We have had the world’s No. 1 podcast, MuggleCast, hosted by Andrew Sims, Micah Tannenbaum, Eric Scull, Ben Schoen, Jamie Lawrence, Laura Thompson, Kevin Steck, Mikey Bourchereau, Matt Britton, Elysa Montford, and many more talented individuals. While MuggleCast is not a regular podcast these days, MuggleNet still hosts four other great podcasts for your listening pleasure: Alohomora!, MuggleNet Academia, Hogwarts Radio, and AudioFictions.
Today, we stay true to our roots by providing up-to-the-minute news while also allowing fans the avenue to contribute great content to the site to express their love of the Boy Who Lived with various sections like our editorials, recipes, fan art, song parodies, DIY, Potter weddings, and SO MANY MORE! It also feels like we almost always have some sort of a giveaway in the works like our annual Advent calendar event and sponsored giveaways. We have hosted the Harry Potter Oscars in 2012, the WizOlympics earlier this year, and each year we also host our MuggleNet OWLs for the most knowledgeable fans. We are truly the one site that fans can come to on a regular basis and find something exciting happening in the world of Harry Potter.
Bottom line – we are NOTHING without the legions of fans who visit us on a regular basis, and for that, we say THANK YOU! We look forward to the next 15 years in the world of Harry Potter.
Head over to your favorite social media outlet, and check out some of our staff videos that we shared throughout the day. In the meantime, Emerson Spartz, the CEO of Spartz, Inc., would like to express his gratitude for the past 15 years. ENJOY!
