The Harry Potter Alliance reaches its Equality FTW fundraising goal – plus, tonight’s live broadcast with Evanna Lynch!
Our friends at the Harry Potter Alliance (or HPA, for short) have reached an amazing goal, and we, at MuggleNet, want to send them our congratulations!
As you might remember, the HPA launched its annual Equality FTW campaign last month, with the goal of raising $100,000 to help fund its many fan activism campaigns for the 2014-2015 year. Last year, these campaigns included the Hunger Games-themed Odds in Our Favor campaign, which was created to increase awareness of economic inequality, and the Accio Books drive to promote literacy by providing books of all types to communities of underprivileged readers.
Although the fundraising for this year’s Equality FTW campaign isn’t officially over for three more days, ending on the night of October 25, the Harry Potter Alliance has exceeded its expectations. Andrew Slack, co-founder and president of the Harry Potter Alliance, said he hopes to “blow [the original] goal out of the water,” adding that the effect that it would have would be phenomenal:
We live in ‘dark and difficult times,’ but with your help, we’re tapping into a new kind of magic that is helping to shape the world for the better. There is no other organization like the Harry Potter Alliance in modern history. We are not only doing amazing things throughout the world, but we are [also] transforming the nature of change itself. This is something to take pride in, fight for, and invest in.
To celebrate the HPA having reached its original fundraising goal for Equality FTW, Slack is hosting a live webcast with actress Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) – going on RIGHT NOW! To join in the fun, you can CLICK HERE.
