Sir Michael Gambon to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award!
The Irish Film and Television Academy has announced who will be receiving its lifetime achievement award this year, and we don’t think the recipient could be any more deserving!
Sir Michael Gambon, who’s had a career spanning an astonishing 50 years, will be honored at the awards on April 8, following in the footsteps of an impressive selection of actors such as Liam Neeson, Jim Sheridan, John Boorman, and Maureen O’Hara.
Speaking of the award, Aine Moriarty, IFTA CEO, had much to say about Gambon.
Michael Gambon is a unique Irish talent who brings passion, skill and charisma to every screen role.
A consummate professional with extraordinary wit and good humour, he has consistently delivered superb performances across a diverse range of pivotal roles and characters. He is a true role model for younger generations of actors to follow.
While this is far from Gambon’s first award, the actor is clearly thrilled with the news:
I am overwhelmed and delighted to receive such an honour from the Irish Academy. I was born in Dublin and have been lucky enough to work here many times over the years.
Although you might know Gambon best for his role as Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies, his long history as an actor is sure to have touched the lives of many. Some of his work includes roles in Sleepy Hollow, Gosford Park, The King’s Speech, and the television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy.
