“Potter” alumni nominated for Best Actor at upcoming European Film Awards
Timothy Spall, who portrayed Peter Pettigrew in the Harry Potter films, is a nominee for Best Actor at the upcoming European Film Awards. Spall was nominated for his portrayal of the real-life eccentric painter J.M.W. Turner in the film Mr. Turner. The film was released October 31, 2014.
Additionally, Brendan Gleeson – who portrayed Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody in the Harry Potter films – is also nominated for Best Actor for his role in Calvary. Gleeson portrays a good-natured priest who must suddenly battle dark forces after being threatened during a confession. The film was released earlier this year on April 11.
Other nominees for Best Actor include Tom Hardy for the film Locke, Aleksey Serebryakov in Leviathan, and Stellan Skarsgård in Nymphomaniac.
The awards ceremony will take place on December 13, 2014, in Riga, Latvia.
Previous winners of Best Actor at the European Film Awards include Harry Potter actors Sir Kenneth Branagh (Gilderoy Lockhart) and Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort).
