Potter DIY: Potions Ornament
Looking to spruce up that Christmas tree of yours and spread the holiday cheer, Potter-style? Get your pliers ready because Polly over at Pieces by Polly is going to help us do just that! Polly first thought to do these while trying to create holiday ornaments that showcased her children’s interests and things they did that year. With a small list of required materials and some holiday spirit, this simple DIY is the perfect addition to your holiday preparations this year!
What You’ll Need:
- Tiny Jars w/cork stoppers (Amazon should do the trick)
- Jewelry wire
- Needle-nose pliers/wire cutters
- Ribbon
- Large needle
- Glue (E-600 glue is recommended but not necessary)
- Beads (color of your choice)
Directions:
Step 1: Get your beads ready – the beads will be the contents of the potion, so choose your colors wisely. Polly used silver and gold beads for her Veritaserum despite it’s true “clear” appearance – don’t be afraid to get creative!
Step 2: Use your large needle to poke a hole through the cork.
Step 3: Once this is done, string your jewelry wire through.
Step 4: Bend and cut the wire off underneath, so it can’t pull back through the hole. If your needle has a rounded hook at the top, great! If not, use your pliers to make one (this will be where we attach the ribbon).
Step 5: Glue the cork on – your ornament will be hanging by the cork, so we want to make sure it is as secure as possible.
Step 6: Tie a ribbon on the two hooks. Polly added a touch of glue to the ribbon knots to make sure they wouldn’t come undone.
The labels can be found by a simple Google search, but Polly found hers here for the Veritaserum and here for the Polyjuice Potion.
