Stephen Fry to take part in new video series “Hay Levels”
Stephen Fry is best known to UK Potter fans as the audiobook voice of the Harry Potter novels. But now, Stephen, who is the host of UK panel show QI, is one of many academics who has signed up to a new video series called Hay Levels.
Here’s some more about what exactly Hay Levels is:
Some of the world’s greatest academics, including Stephen Fry, Simon Schama and Professor Richard Dawkins, have lent their minds to a series of online microlectures designed to help A-level students.
The project was taken on by Hay Festival founder Peter Florence following a chance bus ride from Hereford to the annual arts and literature event.
For those of you who don’t know, A Levels are taken by sixth form students in the UK and would be the equivalent to NEWTS in the Potter world. The Hay Festival is an annual literature festival in Wales, UK. The three-minute videos will be released on YouTube each week and will cover key A Level topics.
Peter Florence further said,
If you think of someone like Richard Dawkins, he is actually on the curriculum for A-level religious studies; there is no better resource for students than hearing him speak on the subject.
We have made 100 films, six so far in the Welsh language, but one of our ambitions is to have Welsh-speaking academics offering masterclasses in subjects such as physics and chemistry.
It’s a project designed for the A-level syllabus, but it’s a resource so interesting and well done, it really is for anybody.
