Library to hold “Potter” Renaissance exhibition and “Potter” films to be shown at New Orleans movie theater

by Toni Louise Cooper · January 14, 2015

Over the years, more and more public places have begun to hold events – both big and small – that celebrate all things Harry Potter-related, especially knowing the response dedicated fans will give, even after all this time… yes, pun intended! It has come to our attention that there are two more of these events to look out for, if you’re in the area.

Firstly, the Cleveland State Community College Library is set to host a month-long exhibition (brought by the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health) dedicated to Renaissance themes that run through the fictional series, those of which include “alchemy, astrology and natural philosophy.”

Harry Potter’s World: Renaissance Science, Magic and Medicine is a traveling exhibit, and the library at CSCC is its next stop! It will be running from January 19 right through to February 28, and to start it off with a bang, a Harry Pottery Opening Bash will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on January 22! Librarian Andy Foskey said,

This is a traveling exhibit that has been hosted at libraries and museums across the country, and I am very proud that our library is one of them. It combines academic areas on campus, such as literature, science, nursing and history. It will also be of interest to Harry Potter fans of all ages.

Because he wanted an exhibit that would draw in a crowd, something he knew that would appeal hugely to the public, he went to great lengths to make sure that CSCC was on its list of stops:

I searched around, and this one made sense. I applied for grant funds from the Cultural and Educational Enrichment Committee to get the exhibit here and simply wrote to the contact person at the National Library of Medicine to request a spot on their schedule.

About the opening event, he continued,

It should be a fun time for everyone. We will have Harry Potter–themed snacks, and everyone who attends will get [S]orted into one of the four houses of Hogwarts! We are encouraging everyone to have fun with the theme and dress up as their favorite character from the Harry Potter series. I can’t wait to see all of the costumes!

Although this sounds extremely exciting on its own, it’s not the only event we’re reporting about today! The Prytania Theatre in New Orleans will be holding late-night Harry Potter film screenings from January 18 until early March, every Sunday and Wednesday nights. The schedule is as follows:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: January 18 and 21, 10:00 p.m.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: January 25 and 28, 10:00 p.m.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: February 1 and 4, 10:00 p.m.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: February 8 and 11, 10:00 p.m.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: February 15 and 18, 10:00 p.m.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: February 22 and 25, 10:00 p.m.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1: March 1 and 4, 10:00 p.m.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2: March 8 and 11, 10:00 p.m.

Tickets can be bought at the cinema box office or website and are $10 each.
