Becoming Ginny Weasley: Valentine’s Day Reject #MNBHP
His eyes are as green as fresh pickled toad,
His hair is as dark as a blackboard.
I wish he was mine, he’s really divine,
The hero who conquered the Dark Lord.”
…
Malfoy was looking furious, and as Ginny passed him to enter her classroom, he yelled spitefully after her, “I don’t think Potter liked your valentine much!”
CoS
Toward the end of the series we know Ginny as the girl who has no problem getting a date. The girl who has the heart of The Chosen One. But, she didn’t start off that way. Ginny began her first Valentine’s Day at Hogwarts in love with a boy who saw her as nothing more than his best mate’s little sister.
Not every Valentine’s Day is going to go our way. Not every crush is going to work out. So what do we do when we find ourselves, like Ginny, rejected by our heart’s desire?
I never really gave up on you,” she [Ginny] said. “Not really. I always hoped….Hermione told me to get on with my life, maybe go out with some other people, relax a bit around you, because I never used to be able to talk if you were in the room, remember? And she thought you might take a bit more notice if I was a bit more—myself.”
“Smart girl, that Hermione,” said Harry, trying to smile. “I just wish I’d asked you sooner. We could’ve had ages…months…years maybe…”

CHALLENGE:
If you find yourself, like Ginny, as a “Valentine’s Day Reject,” read over Hermione’s advice and consider taking it. After all, she’s pretty smart, that Hermione. Look where Ginny ended up, and Hermione didn’t do so bad herself. Don’t place your life on pause. Get out there and live. Have fun where you are right now—single or taken. There’s nothing more attractive than someone who is secure in his or herself. Someone who doesn’t need someone else to make them happy. I like to explain it this way: I already have the ice cream Sunday, my husband is just the cherry on top. I don’t need him to be happy, he’s just that extra sparkle I choose to add to my already joyous life.
