Bloomsbury releases Flourish & Blotts image from upcoming illustrated edition!
Today Bloomsbury revealed the latest image from the upcoming Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone: Illustrated Edition, illustrated by Jim Kay. The image is of Flourish & Blotts, the bookshop in Diagon Alley where Hogwarts students go to purchase their school books. Flourish & Blotts is also the setting of the scene where Ginny unwittingly received Tom Riddle’s diary and where Harry meets Gilderoy Lockhart for the first time!

They bought Harry’s school books in a shop called Flourish & Blotts where the shelves were stacked to the ceiling with books as large as paving stones bound in leather, books the size of postage stamps in covers of silk, books full of peculiar symbols and a few books with nothing in them at all. Even Dudley, who never read anything, would have been wild to get his hands on some of these.” – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
This image of Flourish & Blotts is set to appear on the cover of Bloomsbury’s upcoming new titles catalog and is part of a larger image that depicts Diagon Alley as a whole. As noted in our previous post, not only will this edition be fully illustrated but it will also have a ribbon marker, head and tail bands, and illustrated endpapers – a true deluxe edition!
Flourish & Blotts is the latest in a series of illustrations to have been revealed by Bloomsbury – four illustrations were released in January, including an image of Draco Malfoy. And way back in December 2013, when the illustrated editions were first announced, MuggleNet also revealed illustrations of Harry Potter himself, along with Kay’s depiction of Hogwarts castle!
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone: Illustrated Edition will be released globally this year, on October 6, 2015, and is now available to pre-order in the UK from Bloomsbury!
